I would punch a hole about 3 inches from the end of each line. Then get another line with a buckle on each end. Make it long enough so that when you drape it over your shoulders it has slack enough so you are not pulling on the horses mouth as you move around… Hope this helps..

I’m not a oxen person so I might be prejudice but I would have to agree with the man that said to stick with horses. Field work might be fine with oxen but not road work. Hauling on the road with horses you can trot right a long and do the work in a fraction of the time of oxen. I don’t think I have ever seen an oxen trot… This is all JMHO..

Don’t know where anything is for sale (except maybe a single tree) but I was just wondering where in upstate you are. I’m way up north (60 miles north of Utica) .

And he has a great temperament. If you scroll down on her facebook page you will see him raking and or tedding with his mare team mate. He is on the off side, this was as a 3 year old, he is six now (I think).

I live in Lowville, N.Y. It’s about 55 miles north of Utica. My son lives another 8 miles up route 812 going towards Croghan. I can’t post picks (computer dummy) but I will see if I can get my daughter-in-law to do it.

I just though, if you want to go to Facebook and search Crystal and Alex Lyndaker, they have a bunch of picks of all their horses. I will still get after her to post some here.

To bad you need a Percheron, my son has a nice registered Strawberry Roan Brabant/Belgian stud, 16.3 hands. Not for sale but he would (and has) breed with him.

If your soil is not Selenium rich make sure you have a Selenium salt block. Essential to all kinds of stuff including metabolism. Google it to find out more. I have about 0 selenium in my soil, I always had a Selenium mineral block in the yard.

I guess I kinda agree with Jared. Get another younger horse, doesn’t have to be a 3 year old but maybe a 7 or 8 year old. One that has some experience. Use them when you need a team and when you get to the woods you can split them and use them alternately as single to do the twitching and then as a team to haul out a bigger load. I don’t know how big Annie is but a 15.2 to 15.3 hand is all you need. My son sold a nice 15.3 team last year and I did an awful lot of work with them, double and single. That is actually my favorite size, don’t eat as much and easier to throw the harnesses on. LOL Also, if they are mares you can raise and sell a colt out of one or both to help pay for the hay, if you so desire.

    Just my humble opinion,

JMHO. I wouldn’t take my team on the ice for love nor money. Not worth the chance. A couple weeks ago my son and two grand children went through the ice when they were coming back from ice fishing. People had been fishing right where he went through earlier in the day, their holes weren’t even froze over yet. As luck would have it the water was only 4 1/2 feet deep and my son is 6’3″ so he could stand up and hold the two kids. My other son got down on his belly and got to them. Everyone was ok, just wet and upset a little. Just saying.

I would use your first idea to some extent. Make sure the shaft can’t roll on you, may want to leave it attached to the cart. Slide the pipe up and down the shaft to bend in the right places. From the pic. I can’t tell if your shaft is curved or straight, straight are easier. When your, fairly snug fitting, pipe will slide up and down the shaft you are pretty straight. If it is curved it’s a lot more “FUN”. Don’t use your sledge hammer. JMHO

mcm, No problem about my harness, just thought I would put it out there. As for your collar, I think that you have room to “scrunch” it down a little. that will widen it and shorten it at the same time. Not to much, just a couple light crunches and then try it. Repeat as necessary. Don’t want to break it, just “scrunch” it a little.

If you decide that you don’t need a D-ring I have a nice bio harness for sale. a little fancy but also good for work. Comes with everything to drive team, two singles, and tandem except the set of long lines. Also has scotch collars. $1000.00 or best offer.
