I guess I am the old man here and am crippled up so I can’t walk much. My Devon oxen will turn 7 in a couple months. For most of their work I use a fore cart with a seat on it and I drive them from the seat. When I have to walk they just have to wait for me.

Which method do you use to drive from the cart, voice only, reins to halter, or otherwise?

Was it an unintentional omission to leave out Oxen, A Teamster’s Guide by Drew Conroy? As a novice, I can’t imagine a more clear, thorough explanation, short of an actual in person lesson. It left me confident with the knowledge that I could successfully start a team, or a single, raise and train them to accomplish all of the basics, without needing to refer to any other source. A volume that is so complete is rare for any single book today, on any subject.

I’m all for fun here………mine. For everyone else, I’m anti fun too.

Similar story here as well. Previous owners allowed snowmobilers, enjoyed the trails that they kept clear. The son was even a snowmobiler himself, understood the value of keeping good relations to landowners, and was a responsible user. Unfortunately, too many of his fellow snowmobilers were not, and the family eventually prohibited access to all outsiders. When I bought the place, their spokesman approached me, a seemingly responsible guy himself. I told him the stories related to me by the previous owners, and explained that I was still finding trash and beer cans littered along the old trails. I wished him well in riding his machine, somewhere else.

I find this format very useful. IMO, it promotes a much more intimate exchange than the other format, where you post, wait a day or two for approval, and then receive multiple responses at once, often missing the opportunities for an effective dialog. I like the mutliple categories, which will hopefully keep things more on topic, unlike the other format, which is more often off topic than on. Did I miss where my use of the foolish emoticons is required? I’ll leave them, thank you, but tolerate them if it means that I’ll receive more of the information that I’m looking for here.
