More pictures. They come out with the proper orientation if you click on them.

I had a great time Sat Afternoon and Sunday morning. It was great to see people form all over the region that I don’t always get to connect with. I wish I had been able to be there longer, and especially wish I could have participated in a Thursday elective.
I’ll try to add some pictures.

I have only recently had the pleasure of mowing back pasture and hayfield with my #3 mower. No I really want to learn more and eventually make my own hay.
If anybody wants help in the near future with haying, I’d like to come work and observe. Also, does anybody have a copy of “Haying with horses” by Lynn Miller or any other good reading on how to gain these skills that they’d be willing to lend me?
    Thanks,
    Jay

Here it is after assembly tonight. Any thoughts?
Current length from tip of pole to hook for evener is 10′ even. I can extend or shorten up to 2′ as needed.

    Hi George,
Not having a yoke to build a plug out of, I have let this project wait. Just a few days ago I realized that I had such a yoke permanently attached to a 2″ box steel pole on an old competition cart. I took that off and it fits well into the aluminum which fits well into the steel frame for the arch. I may be in business with it this weekend, just need to cut down the aluminum tube which I didn’t want to do on a whim.

My team harness made by the local harness maker, was a bit more than that, but had lots of adornment. I still had to buy collars and pads. Check with local harness makers too. Best to shop around.

What length are you guys running from the front of the pole to your evener anchor?

Brad, It’s your set up I am modeling after.
I have a 2″ box aluminum pole I am using, and I plan to wedge 12-18″ of oak into it by cutting it so fit snug and rounding the corners to get it started. I plan to drill out the center of this oak to hammer in a 3/4″ ID pipe, into which a 3/4″ bolt will slide. I aim to get 8″ of bolt into the pole. Is this enough?
If you can send me the plans Brad I’d really appreciate it. I am picturing two eye bolts linked, one who’s bolt slides into pole and one who’ bolt passes through the yoke.
    I’ve put up some pictures.
    Thanks,
    Jay

Jonny read this thread this morning. Thank you for your incredibly valuable advice! He is a wonderful student- curious with a strong work ethic, and friendly. He will do a lot of good in the world. The current leading plan for his education is the 2 year Forest Technology associate’s degree from Paul Smith’s.
As much as I want to push him towards a 4 year degree, like the Natural Resource Sustainability Bachelor’s even I have doubts as to its real value in today’s society. It is certainly valuable, but the rediculous level of debt he’d have to take on? I find myself standing back, watching, and supporting whichever way he goes.

I can never figure out what gets in their heads sometimes. There is always something to learn- always. The more miles and hours you get, the better.

    Well,
I’ve got 11 buckets out, 10 on ball valve spouts and one on a bucket spout. I put the first few out last Weds (it was warm) and when I looked today there was some frozen in each bucket.

I got the Leader Ball Valve spouts, and cut off the bottom to make it easier to hang he bucket. The ones Bascoms gave me had a 90 degree bend and about 1″ of plastic after for hooking to tubing. Bonus- I found 5 bucket spouts in one of the buckets in the basement. I haven’t installed them yet. I’m scrounging for a bigger collection tub now, and reshoeing the sap sled I’ve had for a few years. It’s very old and finally being put back to its original use.

What time were you at Bascom’s Bill? I was there around 3pm.
