I have loaded 17.2 horses on a 6 1/2 ft. trailer before but a 7 or 7 1/2 would be a lot better. If you load them with the harness on the hames will catch the door frame on the 6 1/2 footer. I think if I remember it’s on the way out,not on the way in….I would recommend a 7 1/2 if you can find one, then you don’t have to worry. HTH

carl nyParticipantLooks like you have just a single rope to the foot, is it hard to lift?? Was wondering if a small block and tackle from say, D-ring to britchen, would make it easier to lift..Or am I just thinking to much. Also, do you have the rope tied to the foot or do you use a dog collar around the foot. I used a dog collar when I had to tie up a foot on a horse to trim. Tied up just one front foot and then she would stand for the rest, Dumb animals, right..

carl nyParticipantAnd the tip pointed slightly forward.

carl nyParticipantI probably shouldn’t say anything because I really don’t know. That being said, it seems to me that you would want it just in front of the plow share and just above it. Just my thinking and a place to start.

carl nyParticipantI would advise you to latch on to her very quickly, she sounds like a keeper. My DIL is the same way. We use a baler but my son goes to work at 2:pm, that’s just about the time we start baling. Guess who does all the work. Two years ago when she was pregnant I told her that it was my last year in the mow, I’m getting to old. As long as I only keep about one bale on the elevator she can keep up. She is one tough girl….

carl nyParticipantNice looking set-up..
carl nyParticipantTwo complete harnesses, collars, bridals with checks, scotch collars, and two sets of team lines one of which I have apart to use as single. also two sets of loops, hold downs, and hold backs to drive single. Britchenless crouper for lead horse in tandem, I do not have lead horse lines or tug extensions for tandem. I think that is all. I don’t have a pic. right now and would have to have my son help me post it(computer illiterate). Go to my face book page (Carl Lyndaker) and you can see a pic. of my team in action(sorrel ponies with show wagon not Brabant draft horses with bob sled). Harness have some crome but are a little on the plain side. Hope this helps.

carl nyParticipant$800.00 for the Harness.
carl nyParticipantI have a complete set-up of Bio parade harness with scotch collars. They also work as a working harness. Everything to drive double or two singles.

carl nyParticipantGo on the internet and check out Miller Tire and/or Tucker Tire. Should be about the best places and sent right to your door.

carl nyParticipantThe back side of my pasture is a creek, I have never fenced the other side. The horses go to the creek and stand in the water to drink but in 35 years they have never gone across, yet when I ride them they will cross any creek. I have no idea why except that they have no reason to, they are fed good on this side. Not saying that it is a good idea, just saying.

carl nyParticipantSpell check; that should be “spoke”. LOL
carl nyParticipantI guess that I miss spook when I said to shave the leg, I never “shave”, I just clip with about 1/2 in. extension on the clippers. Just be careful to not irritate the shin, maybe hand shears would be better. Beautiful mare you have …

carl nyParticipantMy son has two of them and they work fantastic behind the horses. That doesn’t look that bad, what is wrong with it? I really don’t think he would be interested, I’m just nosy.

carl nyParticipantLook at my other post under Draft Horses. My son also said that he read an article where they used Brabant tissue and other horse tissue in a test, the mites didn’t hardly bother the other tissue but devoured the Brabant tissue.
